This wrecker claimed some things on his invoice that were not true. The troopers dispatched him and won't do anything about it. Look at what he did.

i only saw about 1 minute. the state police do not dictate tow charges. many states (like mine) have a "quick clean up law" that means the roadway MUST BE cleaned up....quickly

the man says that what the companies charge are absurd.....then become a tow company owner and charge $1.98 per hour then?

bottom line, don't get into a wreck, oor stuck or whatever else that REQUIRES a wrecker..

Well, at least you admitted that you only watched about a minute of it. Now, BEFORE you speak again, you might want to know a little more about what is in the video so that you can formulate a coherent response. The towing company said that he had to lift the trailer off of the Durango which he said was JAMMED under the rear of the trailer. He charged for this service. He did not perform this service. He also said that he used air bags to lift the trailer. He did not own or use air bags and again, did not have to lift the trailer. So, hopefully, you understand that the problem is not the rate or the towers job but that he claimed to do things that he did not do just so that he could inflate his bill. Geeez

you get into an accident, a wrecker is called, you pay the bill......da end of the story. Geez.

I couldn't imagine a thought process like that , then I looked at 4 pages of your comments and realized that your presence here serves no real useful purpose other than to amuse yourself. You almost got me. have a good day.

i will...

you have to accept the fact, the highways MUST be cleaned up ASAP. that takes time and money. if YOU DON'T LIKE the costs of a wrecker, then do not wreck, do not break down.

Hey don't confuse him with me.

I'm the one whose presence here serves no useful purpose.

Don't ever insult me like that again.

It's not the rate, it's the fraud he's complaining about.

Did you wake up illiterate today? Or do you actually think wrecker companies should be able to rip people off?

Ever priced out a rotator?
Yes, as a matter of fact. $475,000 to $680,000 depending on the spec. They are NOT cheap. I do know this. I understand that this guy needs to pay his bills but if it was simply a rear end collision that required nothing more than a medium duty wrecker at minimum (20 Ton), to tow it away and clean up the debris and he sent in a rotator and two other trucks, just because he has bills to pay, it is wrong. Most tow companies with a rotator charge based on what they use. For example, if it is a simple hook, $450 - $700. Winch out with riggers down, a little more. Stabilizers out and boom turned, full price. To send your biggese and charge full price? It's not right. Then to lie about it to add other items??? The hood could have been strapped back on. I have see plenty of other tow companies do this but that wasn't the biggest issue. This guy seemed to have a problem with the lying about services that were charged.

it's been going on for years, what (some) of the wrecker companies do. the are on a "police tow list". the police call them in order per call.

the police cannot do anything about the charges each company gets for thier work.

cops call and say a "big truck needs a tow", company hears big truck, sends out the BIG wrecker, what, you want a dinky wrecker to come out, its the wrong one, then they send out the big one? all that time, costs money.

just do not wreck or break down, or get stuck in the mud, sand, snow.

Just because it has been going on for years doesn’t make it right.

Hospitals do this to. Charge for all sorts of crap that they don’t do because very seldom does anybody go over the charges closely.

Well, that's not the way the world works. Also, you are wrong about the police having no authority to do anything about it. Michigan State Police got so sick of it, especially when they ended up with egg on their faces after a bad price gouging pile up that they did not wait for the politicians. They told all heavy wrecker services to submit their rates for their equipment. Those rates were not forced or coerced but they are now recorded and when challenged, better be consistent. They did a great job and it works. This way, if 10 people wreck, they can all guarantee the same rate instead of being taken advantage of.

who's ultimately at fault here..??

the STATE for having an EXCLUSIVE CONTRACT WITH ONE COMPANY..

so, yes, go ahead, get MULIPLE tow companies on the tow list.......

AND...

sure each company can submit thier rates, and get accepted to the tow list for the police to call, BUT. what's to stop one company from listing thier charges, of say $1,000 per hour over a company charging $500 per hour and when the police NEED a tow, they have to go by the list...

ONCE the state ACCEPTS these companies, that HAVE provided thier prices, and to avoid another monopoly, the state will have to add them to the tow list. as long as after that, they do not charge more than the posted prices, they can charge a gazillion dollars per hour........as long as it's all listed.

and BY CONTRACT, the police cannot skip over a higher priced company, in "favor" of a lower priced one...
first come, first served...BY THE LIST.

so cry me a river of crocodile tears on tow rates............

no...the state for having only one contractor, someone who is "politically connected"...

and no "over sight committee" to watch over..
Doesn't change the fact the wrecker company should be shut down, sued out of existence, and it's employee(s) sent to jail for fraud.

First things first, destroy the wrecker company. Then expose and destroy the politicians and bureaucrats that interfere with the free market.

Some states have already cleaned up their illegal tow truck rackets set up by bribed police captains.

if any wrong doing was taking place, they will get a slap on the wrist, and told to be good boys.

at worst, if they do get shut down, with in weeks another family member will reopen under a different name.

no big deal.

don't wreck , don't ditch, don't break down.

the cops DO NOT handle pricing. a PUC (public utilities commission) can set up limits. no way to fully regulate work done at any tow/clean up, unless a state inspector is there as well.
