this time in Broward County FL.

some said already, that some kids are dead, no exact numbers yet. (at least one student had a phone recorder and my god, the shots being fired off)

shooter in custody, some say, either a current student, some say former.

frankly i don't give a hoot about his age (i saw a white boy being handled by the cops near a patrol car), but if (to me) anyone under the age of consent (here that is 18), we should know thier name, and everything.

i think that once ANYONE under the age of consent uses ANYTHING that can be a weapon, that person goes to the head of the line, and IS an adult, and IS NOT afforded privacy from being exposed, as a juvi.

there are no more juvenile criminals past that point.

hopefully more information will be forthcoming.

Saying their name only gives them the notoriety that they are seeking so many news outlets will not use their name too often.

what i mean is, i want them to be exposed as adults for their crimes. no more hiding behind the age of a juvie....commit an adult crime, let us know the age and name. and no sealing up records at age of consent...keep them open forever.

update, 17 kids DEAD......17..over a whack job that basically another student said he was...

Nick Cruz......20 years old, so certainly will stand trial as an adult.

but 5 will get you 20, he will plea insanity

it is sad to see the kids dead and injured. There is a lot of grief down there today.I think that may be one reason a lot of people here are home schooling or going away from public school to other options

Very sad. They were talking about this shooting on local radio this morning. One guy mentioned something Marilyn Manson said in an interview a while back, maybe around the time of Columbine. They asked what he would have said to the shooters at Columbine (before the shooting) to which Manson replied “I wouldn’t have said anything to them. I would have listened to what they were saying to me.” Something along those lines anyway. I’m not a MM fan by any stretch but that makes a lot of sense.

If you stop and think about it very few people listen to what others are saying. I notice it a lot in the work place. I’ve learned to tell if someone is really listening to me, most times people aren’t listening. They might hear you but they’re wrapped up in their own world. Not that I don’t fall into into that catagory myself, I catch myself not really listening a good bit.

It sounds like this guy had some rough waters to navigate through with his mom and Dad dying. I’m not excusing his actions but I wonder how many people tried to listen to him.

shootings can take place at any school not just public. we cannot say for a fact that it is only public schools. happens at colleges as well. and did you think the work place is any safer?

did you know that at one time, DAC when they were in Oklahoma, you could easily go in and talk to someone, then they had to install locks and bullet proof glass?

home schooling (to me) sounds like a good idea, but the child (or children) do not get any peer interactions either.

i think the main problem with public schools is the budget. they are stretched beyond belief. to add gated entrances, locks on top of locks, security, cameras, takes lots of money. private schools can do all that easier, just jack up the tuitions.

so in the end, shootings happen everyday, nearly every place.

no one is safe, lock all your doors, and hide under the sofa.

Everyone is running to their same old arguments, which always happens after something like this.

Those strong arguments each have a bit of merit to them.

Before anything can be acted on, however, we need to look at the timeline surrounding all of this violence.

Look back to the point when crazy killings like this began to grow in number. Compare this timeframe to how society has changed in regards to a few things. I’m not pointing any of these things out right now, as I want to see others really put thought into this and draw some constructive conclusions on their own.

For me, I believe most of this can be boiled down to one word. Curious to see who mentions that word first.

I would say it is the everyone gets a trophy mentality. Kids are not allowed to fail on their own. Parent supervised sports and play dates only ensure that kids do not get the opportunity to have disputes and sort them out for themselves.
Kids have been bullied or outcasted forever but they dealt with it.
Another thing is it is a 24/7 world. Back in our day, you left school for the day and the bullies behind, went home were you were safe for the rest of the day. Now with social media the bullies come right to your home on your screen.

All of this is part of my thoughts.

This mess, especially with three kids coming up in this world, has been eating at me for a while, and I am just now starting to hear people actually begin to discuss it on a realistic level.

faulty parental relationships, lack of discipline, technology, and taking disclipline and God out of schools fuel this kind of insanity

in the 1960`s we would go to high school. In the parking lots was a few old trucks, gun racks in the back window with a old gun hanging there. No one would dare think of using it on someone.Sure we had our fights, fist fights and we got over it and went on our way
prayer in schools and even Bible courses was offered.Teachers would whoop our butts if we got out of line.I got my share.

RJ mentioned bullys
I had my experience with a few, then one day I got fed up and started dotting a few eyes
I never had any trouble with them after that

Too much electronic babysitting.

We have fewer and fewer single-earner households. We used to be happy in a three-bedroom, 1,000 square foot house with a single bathroom and a postage-stamp yard to grow a couple of tomato plants in. We were happy with a five to ten year old used car that we bought from Billy-Bob's Bashed Buggies. We didn't need to have the newest, best and biggest. We were able to live well because we used coupons, cooked meals at home that were served at a dinner table with everybody present and we spent recreational time together trying to brain each other with lawn darts rather than spending thousands of dollars on a boat ride so Mickey Mouse can babysit while we sip Mai-Tais by the pool.

Parents involved in the lives of their children, holding them responsible for their mistakes and teaching them how to function in a hostile world. We prepared our young people for life, rather than for college.

Today, it's video games, movies, McDonald's and allowing somebody else to raise our kids, while we merely provide them with their physical needs and a long series of toys and other distractions, anything, including medications to keep them quiet and out of sight. God forbid we go outside with them so they can run around and be kids without being stolen by some pervert. We would have to step away from the computer or TV for that. We can't even be bothered to nuke some frozen lasagna because it's easier to order pizza.

We do not discipline our kids because we have no idea what they're doing.

there is also the fact that school officials are not able to disipline children as they once were, when I was in school the teachers and principle maintained discipline and the kids KNEW it.

a healthy fear of what would happen kept all of us in line today all the kids fear for being unruly is a few minutes of time out or at most being suspended for a few days and if the kids want a few days off they know to just act up!

now if they knew that they would be subject to an ass beaten and perhaps some all day in school detention you can bet they would rethink their behavior.

I blame my generation, the previous generation knew how to enforce discipline and we were shown how to show respect and then the hippie generation of the sixties and seventies took over and rejected what their parents were taught, now they are in charge make it a crime to punish a child.

here is a great example I bought a moped for my stepdaughter for a birthday present, one day I had to go searching for and found her someplace, doing something that she knew not to do. I loaded up the moped in the truck and started to take her home, I also told her that she was grounded for a month from the moped she got mouthy and said I couldn't do that since the moped was hers, I drove to a buddies farm backed up to a pond and heaved the moped in once we got home I stood her in a corner behind a door telling her I didn't even want to look at her for a while, two hours later she calmed down and I let her go to her room.

now you would think that would be the end of it but NOOOO, she told her teacher about it the next day and that night we have a visit from children's service and the following day was in court, my crime? I put her in a corner for two hours this 22 yo social worker was afraid I might shove her head into a wall in the end I ended up paying several thousand dollars in attorneys fees hundreds in family counseling , had to rent a motel room for three weeks until the counselor report made it to the judge his report stated that I did what needed to be done in the situation.

so you tell me just who ended up punished!!

I’ve heard about these types of incidents but never first hand. WOW! There is something to be said for discipline. I had it growing up. Over and over again some weeks. :D
