Trucking Industry BIGGEST & WEAKEST

We`re biggest and weakest thanks to people having no idea what`s trucking about. I think WE SHOULD CREATE !!! DRIVER APPRECIATION WEEK!!!!
Drivers it is only one week, which can change the whole industry.
NO TRUCK ON ROAD-ALL DRIVER ON VACATION. THIS IS JOB THAT WE HAVE TO PAY FROM OUR POCKET MONEY FOR MealS. HOW MUCH MONEY SENATORS, GOVERMENT PEOPLE RECEIVED FOR TRAVEL.

THEY PAY US PER-DIEM IS STILL OUR MONEY, FOR THEM IS LEAST TAXES, FOR US LESS RETIREMENT MONEY.
NOW THEY WANT TO HIRE EX-ARMY BECAUSE I HEARD THEY HAVE LIFE MEDICAL.
DRIVERS ONE WEEK VACATION -APPRACIATION WEEK. STAY AT HOME FROM JANUARY 3 TO JANUARY8 AND HAVE GREAT HOLLIDAY. WILL WORK FOR YOU AND US.

Before that happens, drivers would need to organize and come up with a set of goals to accomplish.

Once the majority of drivers can come up with a common set of goals, then they need to be organized in order of importance.

At that point, we can start demanding things be changed.

-------------------

And anybody that thinks a trucking shutdown would never do any good, just look at how the Washington area got messed up. Companies were in a frenzy because they quickly ran out of product for customers, and Millions of dollars were lost in the area within a couple days.
Expand that out over the entire united states, for just 24 hours, and every news reporter in the United States would be covering it.

I don't see this having any impact. There would need to be identified leadership, thought out demands, and solidarity among drivers. Not to mention, a lot of drivers are already off that week, and peoples' minds are on holidays and family.

I know the best week for that is a week before 4-of July. Drivers they don`t have goths. They don`t care about their future and retirement. What I always hear Freedom in the truck and from bosses????.

Black list

We can't all take off but if we were to come up with a list of the towns and counties and states for that matter. And just refuse to deliver to those places then maybe someone will listen to us. We can't hurt the places that have done nothing wrong all that will do is put a bitter taste in there mouth about us.

I keep reading about truckers wanting to do a massive "stop trucking week" or such. While I agree such an action would bring a country to it's knees, think about what you are asking. How do you think a country full of people in need, the elderly and all the officials will feel. They will not decide to give in to demands. They will be angered at all truckers for weakening this fine nation, and the local, state and federal officials will probably call it treason.

Do we all remember the massive Air Traffic Controller stike during the Reagan Era. If I remember correctly, they were all FIRED!!! I imagine they all had the same speech as well. "Hey all you Air Traffic Controllers, lets go on strike and show the country we can bring them to their knees." I bet those same Air Traffic Controllers wish they could have just kicked the crap out of whoever suggested that instead of listening.

I would just remember that there are hundreds, if not thousands of newbie truckers, who would just love it if the Owner Operators would do such a strike. No company is going to do it, and they will need to hire all the newnies to make up for all the owner operators who just had their licenses revoked for attempted treason or some such charges.

That is why you don't just shutdown, and if you do shutdown, it has to be a last resort.

You have to take steps and be patient.

Right now, we have the OOIDA, who really tries to do as much for the driver as possible, given limited resources. They are growing though, and year by year, they are making a larger and larger representation for us.

Problem is, only a very small percentage of drivers will support the OOIDA, and the first time OOIDA can't help them with a specific problem, they give up on the organization and badmouth it everywhere.

Truck drivers, whether it be owner operators, lease operators, or company drivers, can all greatly benefit the industry by supporting OOIDA. They might not be perfect, but they are by far the best thing available to us.

But joining is just a start. Next you have to pay attention to the issues that are affecting the industry, and rather than wait until it is too late, be active and work toward preventing things from happening.

Case in point - NAFTA
Right now, 99% of truckers badmouth NAFTA, and so do the majority of non-truckers. Back in the early 90's though, instead of doing something about it, we as a nation proceeded to vote people that supported it into offices. We then let it be passed without any complaints.
When did we finally get upset about it? When it became a reality and began to personally affect us.

How about this. Pick a state. Any state. Every week to not purchase fuel, food or even coffee. Of course it would have to be everyone. I havent purchased fuel in Ohio since 1986. I also havent shopped at Kroger since 1991,(I was treated badly at a Kroger warehouse in Dallas.) Hard to get three truckers to agree on the weather standing in the rain much less organizing any kinda attention getting work stoppage. Smile and drive! Boogie

Believe me talking not always have good impact, small action without damaging people's live have good results. I don`t know about OOIDA , but a lot of agency like them, they`re sponsored by Government and I don`t trust them at all. Few year ago I could find out how many O/O went out of business, now it is not available. Don`t want to scare people, in this profession. Only in our situation organization like Drivers for Drivers, which only commercial driver can be a member of it, it is a future for us. Must be not sponsored by Government.

There would need to be some organization and leadership to take place in order for it to happen. If all truckers stopped driving would be devastating to the entire county and hurt the economy too. So it would have to be organized first in order to make it happen.

Lets see. We as truckers all stop driving for 5 days. Food stops getting delivered, as well as meds, clothing, beer (oh my gosh, not that) and all the essentials to run business no matter what the industry. Supermarkets go empty rather fast, and some elderly or children have to do without food. What do markets do when they are short on supply and demand is high. They raise prices. Not everybody can afford the raise in prices.

What happens when some old guy dies because he could not get any meds, since they are sitting on some loading dock awaiting pick-up; Or little baby that suffered due to lack of milk or baby food. Kids go to school without lunches due to there being no bread available.

People later on will ask why, and all they will remember is that the American truckers let them down. Meanwhile the Mexican truckers will get their wish and take all the jobs.

DIAMONDTIM I know with people like you if our minimum wages is set for 1 dollar, we will work for 1 dollar an hour when others make 15/h. I don`t think you`re Trucker, and I don`t think you know what mean that we struggle for last few years. Some day you will pay more for everything, anyway you paying now without even notice. Check items you buying everyday, and check amount or weight in it. I hope I don`t have to open you eyes.
I can`t put less diesel in my truck, and go the same distance

PRE-DIEM, PER-DIEM
In addition to their annual salary ($113,000 for the rank and file; $130,000 for leaders), lawmakers are eligible for per diem when they are in session or declare that they are in Sacramento to work on state business.
The Assembly approved the budget before heading out on summer recess, but the spending plan languished in the Senate. The upper house approved it Aug. 21, a day after the legislative session was set to resume after the recess.

Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata, D-Oakland, logged 25 work days during the recess that began July 21 and picked up a $4,050 per diem check.
"Per diem requests are just some of the extra costs the state must pay when a budget is not passed on time," Perata said in a statement.
Perata said he's "disappointed we could not approve a budget sooner" and said he still doesn't "understand why Republicans, who say they want to reduce spending, held out and forced the state to incur so many extra costs."
Perata's counterpart, Senate Republican leader Dick Ackerman, put in for 17 work days during the period at $162 a day for a $2,754 check.
"We don't set the per diem (and) we don't set the salaries," Ackerman said, noting an independent panel does. "So basically, we don't have any control over it."

I hope drivers, you know what I mean by article above. Our salary .40 cent a mile plus 41 dollars a day meal money.(85% deductible) Not from our pocket. Do you know how much less is on yours Retirement not having real per-diem money, but taking out of your pocket??????

As to your comment about this,, it was only possible for them to be fired because they (Air Traffic Controllers) are government employees. They work for the FAA (Federal Aviation Administ5ration) and unlike federal express they actually are a part of the govenment. I do hoever agree that we should not hurt those that either support this cause or who are ignorant to it. There is only one place that needs to hear the LIFE BLOOD of this country Washington DC. This is the place to set a formal protest. It would not take every driver to be there. If say 2 -3 hundred drivers perhaps less, simply turned off thier trucks in the midde of each main road into and out of Washington at a set time for just 30 minutes. Eyes would open and the forgoten words of our constitution would be remembered " We the people....." This country is in a downfall just like the state in which we were origininally modeled after--The Roman Empire.. They ceased to exist because of the complacensy of the people and allowed more of their daily lives to become governed by the senate. It is our country but if we ever want the kind of economic strength held in the 50's people have to start to once again care about his fellow neighbor. What affects one will eventually effect all.
