GPS GPS POI's - POI Factory

Anybody use any of the POI files from POI Factory? POI Factory | GPS and other interesting topics

I guess I am curious as to whether Rand Mcnally (or other GPS units) update truck stops and such via their periodic updates, or do you just have what the GPS came with and have to use these POI files in order to update on your own?

Seems like truck stops have been added at some point during the normal GPS updates, but I'm not positive at the moment.

I have looked at them in the past. I have never left them IN my GPS. It's basically a bunch of users that have opted to share their address books.

A few years ago, I sat down and made out a bunch of POI because I KNEW about a month out that I would be going to those specific locations. Made life much easier.

I used that site non stop for years. I have a pretty extensive collection of GPS files for the Garmin. Not sure if they would work on other units. I have all the truckstops, all Walmart Super centers, weigh stations, Speeeco, Blue Beacon and rest areas. They are in GPX and CSV format

I used their Walmart POI file to add them into my Rand 510 years ago. It worked well.

Most of the POI files I got were from the truck stop web sites but even then they required fixing up just like the POI factory. Many mistakes.

i never paid for the lifetime maps. all i get is construction zones, maybe the occasional updated speed limits.

Things change. Does your map show the I24/I65 interchange in Birmingham completed?

Oh that's right... you don't get out much.

;)

Hell neither do I apparently. Because I have no idea where I-24 goes within 150 miles of B'hamo_O

Pretty sure you meant I-22

Probably... I still think of it as US78, because I usually get on the route up in Memphis. Nice to stay away from that crap hole PEElot, and the associated traffic nightmare around there.
