CB Radio Costly CB'S

IS there really any difference in the high priced CB'S to the lower priced ones?

I see some hefty prices out there and really wonder what is the difference between them?

negative there is not i have a cobra 18 and it gets out as well as the galaxy i have and the president hr2510 the real range comes from your antenna

Many of your more expensive ones simply have things you don't really need, and ultimately creates more interference within the radio, decreasing reception and increasing static.

If you don't plan on doing any upgrading, other than a simple peak and tune, I would stay under $100.00. You can catch a sale on a Cobra 29 Classic and have enough money left to get it peaked and tuned for that price.

I'd recommend the Galaxy 929, which is very similar to the Cobra 29, but it seems to be constructed in a sturdier manner.

I recently had mine in the shop to have the light behind the meter replaced and was astounded at the durability they have built into them

And also, there is plenty of room in the box if you want to add the silly little truckers toys some guys insist on....

The other poster was right though. Antennas are crucial to the operation. The longer the whip, the better the range.

One of the best out there is the FRANCIS. They're inexpensive, uncomplicated and give excellent performance, and can handle a little power if you want to add some kick to the radidio.

Yes, they are very good antennas, but it depends on where you mount them.

If you have a KW T2000 or it's twin brother the 387 Pete, many people are mounting antennas behind the cab so they can get a good ground. The Francis is not a good antenna for this because it is a full load antenna. You want to make sure you get a "top load" antenna if you are mounting the antenna anywhere low, otherwise you lose a large amount of your reception.

Hubby says he gets the best reception by mounting the antenna behind the cab as well.

i never really used mine enough to spend all the money on one or an expensive antenna. i only really used it at shippers/recievers and on occassions listen to it at truck stops until the smack talking got to thick and i got tired of hearing it..

Yes, there is a diff! Its all about a good reciever along with a good antenna. Something with a good selection and rejection makes a big differance.

So many drivers don't even use them anymore, I ask the drivers to wait and I will contact them on the CB when I can help them and so often anymore they say they don't have one.

i got your meat right here........and i will be back in the woods (with your nevermind ) tomorrow thanks lol

If you're into fancy gadgets with a lot of bells and whistles, then you might want the pricier models. If all you care about is good reception and performance, then save your money and buy the inexpensive option.

I was wondering since CB's are slowly dying out, if I could just make paper airplanes and throw them at people as I go down the road? Seems like more fun to me.

i've had a Ranger.

i've had a Galaxy

i've had Cobra's.

i've had Uniden's.

i've had a Midland.

i've had a Johnson (23 channels)

i've had Sadio Shack (23 channels)

............................................................

currently, in my pick-up truck, i have a Uniden "pocket sized" cb radio, and its all i need for road warnings.

in my "big truck", i have a Cobra 25 LTD....................

when you spend all sorts of money, in the end, you're better off with a least expensive cb radio. it hurts less when and if it should ever get stolen, or breaks down.............
