I drive this 2017 Volvo it has the following distance i tell you i didnt think i tailgated others but this thing make me stay almost 2 truck and trailer lenghths back needless to say the stupid things always going off beeping
It also has the automatic braking that is a dangerous feature

Bet that works great in heavy traffic. You will be going in reverse before you know it!

Neh.. I have one in this Pete. The alert distance changes with speed, whether you're on the accelerator and whether you're closing on the car in front of you. It will begin to alert at 140' at 60 mph. All I have to do is either change lanes or lift my foot off the accelerator. It doesn't slam the brakes every time somebody cuts me off. I've only had it auto-brake once and it was because a car pulled in front of me and then slowed significantly because the driver pulled an OHCRAPTHATSMYEXIT maneuver. The braking wasn't anywhere near as severe as it was in that Cascadia I had at Prime.

The feature I get annoyed about is "smart cruise," where, when I have my cruise control set, if I come up on someone going slower than me, my truck will slow down to whatever speed the vehicle in front of me is going. I grumble, then push the go-pedal and get around the slower vehicle.

(to the O/P)
If the alarm is constantly going off, you are following too close and apparently, have a habit of following too close. Easy solution, as MND said, is back off. Or pass. Or just stay on 'em and listen to the alert. Whatever.. but sorry, no sympathy here. Perhaps you're one of the reasons we're being stuck with these gizmos and gadgets, huh?

Okay but seriously in order to actually get through places like New Jersey, ya gotta ignore that beeping. Tune it out and do your job.

On the open road? No reason at all to be that close. Let the cruise control maintain your space unless that vehicle is slow, in which case you can pass them.

Have the CMS in both my trucks. Hardly ever notice it unless like @Injun said it starts mirroring some pos Swifty, Punkin, or Prime wanting to lollygag around all damn day:stirpot2:

O/P back off. You will not hear beeping unless you are way to close to the vehicle in front of you, or your gaining on a slower vehicle and are inside of your braking distance for that speed.

Who's lollygagging? Takes a lot of discipline to run lower speeds, not get caught up in the slowing down/speeding up nonsense, forgoing a multitude of fuel stops and the temptation of serious lollygagging. Besides, I have more reaction time to the stupid crap faster trucks pull, and the boneheaded stuff the wheelholders are doing with abandon... like tailgating in heavy traffic.

Follow some of the Smith Principles, driving 67 is just as safe as 58.

If not more. Considering you are more likely to be running the same speed as those around you.

Blah blah blah blah blah.........

Translation "I enjoy being a rolling road block":p

Maybe y'all should just learn how to drive your truck safely, instead of whining about having to pass someone occasionally.

Maybe ya'll should drive with the speed of traffic instead of being a road obstruction.

And then we wouldn't have to worry so much about people trying to force more regulations on us.

Guys driving too fast for conditions, doing unsafe things at high speed, driving beyond their abilities, are some of the reasons we are seeing more regulation. Driving safely within the speed limit isn't.

Seems you had one recently... maybe the FMCSA should be putting the compliance screws to you.
For doing 45 in a 60 up a 7% grade.

Good one.

Considering fault was put on a car crossing left of center and speeding.
