Why did you become a trucker?

Hi -- I'm a writer working on an article about the many different ways and reasons people get into trucking. I'm interested in hearing from anyone who cares to share their story about why they drive for a living.

Half my Family were driving Trucks and Busses.
I went in a Truck Workshop to learn that Bussines for 3 and a half Year. Worked then 20 Year as Mechanic and started then driving. First Long Distance, and since i suffer Diabetic doing Dayjobs.

Dayjobs gave you diabetes?

Why I took up truck driving???? Cause the job of God was taken and this was the next best thing available. ;)

Actually it was to get away from the kind of life I was living back then. Of course, back then truckers were respected as a genuine trade not a haven for those who are unhirable anyplace else like today.

Gave me alot of undistracted time to think about where my life was going and suchlike. Wages were not all that bad back then either.

Would I do it again today? Probably not.

Can you translate the spoken words in this "song" into English?

Be honest. It was because too much education was required, and you're scared of heights. ;)

I'd always had the idea in the back of my mind, but didn't do anything about it until I could no longer crawl around in burning buildings. Then I went to Swift school and haven't looked back. Wish I'd done it sooner.

I got the idea one day when i was pushing back a 747. As the engines where spooling up an pushing back at me, i looked over to the cargo sheds where the trucks pick up and drop air freight. I thought to myself, I bet I could back up one of those big-rigs if I had some practice.

How many times?

A bunch.
Actually it was a tether ball and I had to keep wailing it and waiting for the head thump so I'd get used to it.
That was back in the dark ages when some people thought a kid needed a few head thumpings to develop character and learn life lessons.
Failing that, there was always a few more head thumpings to prepare one for the marine corp if it came to that...
numbnuts.
:)

:D

What's the jet blast like behind one of those things when they're just idling?
