So glad this hasn't happened to me yet. The interstates don't bother me so much, but getting on the smaller highways at night and early morning can make for some close calls!

If they run across the road in front of you, don't throw on your high beams, and don't honk. That is two ways to get them to stop in their tracks almost every time.

I was stopped by a moose in the road, many years ago up in Maine. Hitting them isn't an option, and they don't get in any hurry getting out of the way.

You would be surprised by the number of people that think you should honk so they know you are there.

Out in Montana, came upon a gang of deer about 30 standing on the road in one lane and on both sides of the road. As I was approaching them very slowly, the guy behind me started honking. The deer went everywhere. I have no idea how I missed them. Explained it to him that you just slowly go by and they don't seem to notice.

You definitely don't want to do that to a moose, tends to make them come after you, and they can do some major damage to a stopped car.

Yeah, I saw an SUV hit a moose on the interstate just north of Anchorage. They both lost. Driver was okay, because Moose entered passenger side where no one was.

Was you driving a truck up there?

I have always wanted to make at least one run up there, probably won't ever happen though. I hear it is a pretty tough haul.

I deliver RV's now. I took a trailer to Fairbanks, AK, then proceeded to tour the state. I went to Denali, (to look at Mt. McKinley), Anchorage, & Valdez.

Had only wanted to go to Alaska for over 30 years. This way I got paid.

Used to drive a semi, may be doing it again if the freight doen't pick up.
Went and did the big trucks last winter, prefer my independence. I work when I need the money.

The red dodge had 7635 miles when I left. 16,000 when I got back.

Now has almost 49600.

It looks like you took alot of the same roads as I in July 06. And had the same weather! We never did get a view of Mt McKinley and we were in Denali for a week. Everyday was overcast or rainy. Your photo album was dated July 07. Is that when you were there?

No, we left June 20th from Goshen, IN. I got back July 1. That was the day I got everything up on photobucket.
