A popular rumor that was circulating during my time in the service was that Russian sailors were allowed vodka rations onboard the submarines. I don't know if that statement is true or not, but having alcohol in the workplace doesn't sound like a bad idea. Hell, it should be mandatory for the folks who are naturally uptight.

British sailors still get a ration of rum every day.
