(information taken from Werner website)Theres a few things about Werner that I would like to address to the drivers who are thinken about driving for them.I drove for Werner for 2 yrs.Only reason I stay so long is to get the exp.You do not get the miles like their website and magazines say.Werner keeps the otr drivers out in the east coast.Only way I ever got out of the east is when I requested hometime. It never failed everytime I did get a good load with lots of miles, they would swap that load with another driver so that they would keep me in the east. Then I would alot of times wait all day for the swap to arrive, therfore burning up my 14.If u get routed to the Omaha terminal,u better plan on staying there for 3 days at least. You always have to go thru the safety lane and it never fails they will find something wrong with your trk even if it means a dirty screw. Then your stuck there for 3 days at least because the mechanics ARE EXTREMELY SLOW.My checks averaged$200.00 to $400.00 a week most were less then what a student makes. So if you want to go to a company strickly to get trained,I say go for it but if u have the exp,I say look elsewhere.Take this advice from a person that has drove for Werner.Werner stands for(WE EMPLOY ROOKIES NO EXP REQUIRED) I stand firmly in that.

You want my review, well here it goes.Werner does not give the miles. They send u to the omaha term and youre there 3 days at least. They are swap and split happy.Werner hires every week and don't give the miles to the drivers that are already there.Your paperless log sucks.Because 85% of the time my 14 would burn up alot faster then my 11 because I would have to wait all day for the swap to arrive. If the dispatchers and load planners actually knew how to do their job, there would'nt be so much sitting. There is no reason why the drivers can't take the load they are under directly to the customers.

After looking to leave Prime Inc and go somewhere else (Thought I about Marten), I decide to go back to Werner. It's a company I'm familiar with, regardless if I like them or not. I've been with this company off and on since Dec 1998.

Stay out of the terminals unless you have to split a load there. If you're traveling along I-80 and they tell you to get fuel in Omaha, don't do it. Get fuel at Iowa 80 or at the Pilot in Big Springs, NE. Once you do go to the terminal, you might as well relax, do your laundry, get your quarterly safety meeting out of the way, go to a casino, because you're going to be there a while. Three days is about right.

They are swap and split happy.Werner hires every week and don't give the miles to the drivers that are already there.

Werner can pay drivers less for running a load 200 miles one way, then having them take a load 200 miles back and go home. Instead of having one driver get paid $0.35/mi for the whole load, they can pay five or six drivers $0.28/mi for hauling it in segments.

NetOps sucks. There's no way around it. If you don't want to pull NetOps loads, go to a dedicated run or pull a flatbed or reefer. Even trainers have to put up with NetOps loads...:(

Your paperless log sucks.Because 85% of the time my 14 would burn up alot faster then my 11 because I would have to wait all day for the swap to arrive.

I would say not. I love paperless logs. You don't have to worry (for the most part) about messing something up or having to worry about DOT checking your logs. Most of the time DOT doesn't bother with us. They just know we're paperless and let us go by, for the most part.

What I will say about paperless logs is that it give Werner the opportunity to micro-manage their drivers. If you have hours to drive, Werner will push you to run those hours. If you have a load that is a drop and you can be there at 12pm, but you have until midnight to get there, Werner will change your appt time and make you drop at 12pm, then not bother to per-plan you, so you wind-up sitting for the rest of the day. But you go the load there early...

It's even worse with trainers. Try getting in a shower on a 2400/mi trip that they want there in 48hrs. Not going to happen. With paper logs, they expect you to run an average of 50mph.

Micro managing sucks. Werner is good at it.

If the dispatchers and load planners actually knew how to do their job, there would'nt be so much sitting. There is no reason why the drivers can't take the load they are under directly to the customers.

I agree with you there. I don't think the people they hire as load planners either know or care how to do there jobs. When I was in the Army Reserves, I was a Tranportation Management Specialist. A fance title for an 88N...:D

Managing load is not a hard one, but Werner is only looking out for themselves, not the driver. If they driver does their job, they make money. That's all Werner cares about.

While you were in Omaha did you notice how much access Werner drivers have to any of the buildings there? Werner drivers don't have access to hardly any thing except most of the basement and only part of the first floor in the main building. That tells you just how much Werner accually trusts their drivers. I've worked for companies where drivers have just as much access to everything the regular employee has access to.

Also, drivers can make a company what it is. All the late loads this company gets doesn't help us out any. All the damaged equipment costs the company money. Try not jacking up your bumpers and Werner wouldn't have to spend the money fixing them and maybe (big word), maybe they can spend that on the drivers.

How many jacked up trailers have you had to pull becuase someone didn't do their job and jacked up the landing gear? Or the door. Or the light, or tire, or...you get the picture.

I will say that Werner does have some of the best benefits in the industry. Blue Cross/Blue Shield, dental and vision at a good price.

With all the turnover in this company, I don't think that Werner cares how much the drives like or dislike the company. Get the load on time and shut up and do your job.

Too bad, too. This used to be a really good company. Maybe they'll get back to what trucking really is about. One truck. One driver. One load. Let's get the miles and not worry about anything else.

Do your year or two and go find a better company that pays more and give you the miles...:)
