starting a new career!

Hi, name is Jeff.

Will be starting my training with Schneider soon and looking forward to a new career.

Just finished reading the review here on the company, makes me feel a little better about the place I chose.

See you around the forums.

howdy guys. started checking trucking industry in january after attending a seminar for stevens transport. a buddy of mine has been with them since august and was happy as a company driver but has a diffrent opionon after signing a lease agreement with alliance. seems you need a little background in running a business to really be succesful with a lease. he is just an old country boy like me. ha ha. we were both laid off from the same company last year. we were both in the constuction business and that industry has been hit hard by the recession. i looked into opening a subway franchise and they were quick to tell me that it was a finacial risk and would be difficult to get a loan with no previous business experince. but these trucking companys seem to be pushing hard on their lease programs for drivers with very little experience. i guess having someone pay the truck note and insurance is cheaper for them. fuel seems to be the area that you really have to manage well. anyways im my research of the trucking industry i have found a outfit called millis transfer a pretty good place to start. hard to get in however. their classes are small and they can spend more time with the individal driver. about 8 to 10 people a class. my buddy said he had 30 people in his stevens class and about 80 people in his orientation class in dallas. millis recruiter told me they get about 200 aps a week. also checking into central refegiration out of salt lake city. anyone have info on em? they seem pretty good.checked with local unemployment office about a grant for truck driving school but had to much income last year to quailify. i might be eligable for some type of student loan but still waiting to hear back. i actually didnt earn that much last year but with unemployment benefits and my 401k cash in it added up. anyway guys thats my story and i hope to get started in trucking in the next couple of months. any suggestions from you guys and gals would be appreciated.
