Millions of truck drivers and other workers who visit U.S. ports have carried Transportation Worker Identification Credential cards for the last five years. Many of those workers will carry them for the next three years.

The Transportation Security Administration recently posted an announcement on its website that TWIC cardholders whose cards expire before Dec. 31, 2014, must obtain a TWIC extension card that will last three years.

Those cards are worthless I've seen one place with a reader. And most places still want you to buy their own local card or better
pay their fee. Screw twic hazmat and the federal goverenment.

I use my TWIC card all the time and it's paid for itself 100 times over. My profile on ITS states that I have one. I just got my renewed card last week for another 3 years. Did it online. Took less then 10 days. I do CIA and Navy loads on a regular basis. No TWIC card, no load. They use to allow drivers to stop at the gate then the contractor would have one of their guys who had a CDL drive the trucks in to unload. Then they found out insurance does not cover someone else not approved to drive the truck so that was that.

Some places are now charging fees for escorts if you dont have a twic card.

We pick up loads in beaumont where a $25 or $50 fee is automatically factored into our settlement for the escort. I habe a twic but they wont adjust the settlement, and since it is iur company, the escort leads us in anyway. I will no longer tqke this load as a result.

There is no escort service at the CIA or Navy Base when your unloading next to the nuke subs.

Even if there was, you probably wouldn't want to give up the cash to pay for the escort.

I despise twic cards, mainly because I feel hazmat and twic should be combined. That said, it is just another tool for the trade at this point.

The TWIC card has a chip on board that has your fingerprints, info and picture and is easy to verify all your current info within seconds. Every secure facility that I go into has a full time local officer at the gate also. They are the ones that arrest you if something is wrong, the military cannot.

There's one Navy girl at the gate in Portsmouth Navel Shipyard. She's a hot s*** and we go at it back and forth every time I'm there. She could kick my azz with no problem at all.

We have to pay for escorts at the port, $25. The company reimburses the driver. One of my pals/ co-worker was told that he had been there too many times and could no longer just pay for the escort, He had to apply for a TWIC card. He did and was successful. That was the last time I seen him. I was telling him it was a waste of money.
His issue was that the company would pay for the escort but not the cost of a TWIC card. I would just refuse to go to the port rather than get a TWIC card.

We have a border FAST card and applying for that, Has background checks from CSIS, Homeland security and Interpol. The same checks that are made to get a TWIC card. So why the redundancy?

I got TWIC and still haven't seen my escort.

How will I know if I like her?

When is she supposed to come?

She needs to hurry because there's only about 8 months left on this one and if the service doesn't get better.... I'm not renewing.

The extension is good for 3 years, but is easier to get than the full 5 year, if you let your's expire like I did mine. If you let it expire like I did mine, then you pay the full fee, and need the two appointments all over again, and the office makes a huge friggin drama of it and blaa blaa blaa....

Mine expired last September. It was handy when I was nfrequently going into ports and rail yards, but that's not the case anymore.
