So anyone know of a good driving school?

Well your half right.

Good movie:thumbsup:

Yeah I hate it but we have four trucks in the shop now. Our poor new terminal manager spends half his time just trying to keep us in trucks. I am going to suggest getting a rental for the week and just sending this one on for a new clutch, mirror covers (because it is driving me nuts), and an alignment. Not sure if they will go for it or not. Odd thing is this truck will be up for sale when the new ones get here. I may ask the price on this old girl.

Don't buy it! Go 3 years older and get rid of the emissions completely. No point in having something with any sort of emissions when it still isn't California compliant. :)

Besides, you would have to put an autoshift in it or replace the clutch once a month ;)

I hear ya Tazz. I was switching trucks once a week, Into subs back into my truck, Into subs. I finally got one of the new trucks, First one ever in it. So far so good. I am positive that every trucker has their own way of doing things and that is not always good for the truck or the driver going into that truck.

If I do it California will not be on the agenda. We have a run here I could take over (it is a catch as catch can right now) Manchester to Marion, AR, to Shelbyville back to Manchester 6 days a week. Not overly excited about the 6 days part. Sounds a whole lot like work:eek: Pretty sure I do not want to run anything at all. Kinda why I am a company driver. However dispatch and I cross swords routinely. Kind of a running theme with me in truth. I despise inefficiency, and hold them to my standards in performance. So when I get to the rail with no billing, or I get dispatched two days late on a pick up that turns me into a work in I get :explode:

But if I could pick this truck up for 20K and pay it off in a year. My plan would be to either stay here or go Landstar. I have been looking at that option, Landstar, but they have some rules I do not think I am comfortable with.

It is an '05 Detroit in this truck. All I would have to deal with is the EGR and they did not have the problems Cummins did so far as I know. And I will adapt to the ten speed :panic:

I dont know. I work for Landstar years back when it was like a company load board. Landstar trucks back then looked pretty good.
I am pretty sure that the looks of Landstar trucks are a comment on the rates. Like getting a 20k truck and getting it put on.
I know what you are not comfortable with, It is the E-Logs, One has to wonder why a do as you want company would go to E-logs before it was mandated.

Not the issue. I am on elogs here, and was at Titan.

My issues are some of their rules if I have a break down, I am not allowed to rent a truck to complete the load.

90 day inspections. Unwarranted in my opinion, and I have talked with some that have had Landstar approved shops be extremely predatory in nature.

And the resolution protocol when dealing with a broker seems weighted against the driver to me.

And a good bath, couple plastic covers on the back of the mirrors and a polish job she would not look half bad. She has full fairing that are solid. The Bumper has some peeling and I would switch the light clusters out. But really not in terrible shape just below my standards.

I don't like the 90 day inspection thing, but that seems to be becoming pretty common in the industry.

We do them, but I make sure to get them done at a Schneider terminal. Our terminals don't want to work on our trucks, so they aren't going to invent problems to screw us over.

We can go to other locations and get them done for free (schneider pays for the inspections) but that just doesn't seem like a smart decision when you are potentially going to have to pay for any needed repairs.

That right there would have talked me out of Landstar.

Buy local
Ever heard of that? ;)

I go to a 'company approved' inspection facility every 6 months but not before calling to make sure my guy is working that night. ;)

He knows I won't go further than the house or Rick's shop if he tells me to get something right before leaving town.

When I was at Titan we ran the 10 speed autoshifts, then there was the two week debacle at Punkin with a ten speed manual. I did alright, probably was concentrating harder knowing I had to retrain myself.

Started here with a 13 in Classic. It was like I had never quit using a stick. Just felt natural. Then they sold my truck:(

Now I am in an 06 Century until our new Cascadia's get in with a 10 speed. Holy crud I keep skipping gears, looking for gears that are not there, downshifting........is over rated anyways:rolleyes:

If I do not recover by the end of the day I may have to sign up for one of those fancy schools ya'll keep raving about:rant: Well off to haul my rear ends to the rail. No the load is rear ends, jeez get your mind out of the gutter. Gonna run through the woods so wish me luck. This old girl and I are gonna come to an understanding or one of us is not coming out the other end. ;)

Lemme get this straight, you struggle with 10 speeds, but want to jab me about choice of drink?

Job...THEN...recreation.

You ever seen an 18 speed? Or a Positive Ground system? Or full locking rears? Or Mud? How bout a 8LL or NO power steering??

There is no way in hell I would have ever posted something like this. Struggling with various ten speeds....

SERIOUSLY??

No escorts on that one, and frankly and 18 speed is the best transmission out there right now. Especially for those of you all wound up about fuel mileage...you should realize that being able to keep the engine at lower RPM while progressively shifting is a huge benefit. Even if you end up shifting that much more...there is never any reason to over-rev an engine with an 18.

For me the benefit lies in just moving really huge shit around at very low speeds, and motoring through mud and soft crap while staying in the torque range...

Either way, you people who think your ten speeds are just fine, are clueless drones. Just like your big box company wanted you to be. When you get large, or leave pavement, come talk to me about your absolute wisdom. Because it stops when you get beyond the basics.

Kudos.

10 speeds are just fine, ... if you're hauling styrofoam cups. ;)
