Running Low On...

Patience.

I'm running low on patience of half steppers and malingerers who come to Menomonie and get our best loads while I run around Chicago more than anyone should ever have to.

Then they play sick or whine and cry about driving 500 miles in a straight line on a weekend when they're paid more to do so.

I hope Walmart starts hammering accountability on lazy asses who can't drop and hook dry vans.

Honestly zero respect for these people. And its only going to get worse.

Theres a real reason open deck drivers and everyone else looks down on van drivers. A REAL reason.

It's because they've earned it.
FACT!

It's much easier now than it used to be with the advent of air ride suspension. It used to be where you'd wheel up with 24.5's expecting to just slide under a box and you get to it and it's 6" lower than the lowest part of your frame. They guy that dropped it had 10.00X20's on his pegleg Shaker. So you stand there in sub 0 weather trying to crank up the frozen landing gear.

Today, you blow the bags and get under just about anything left by the previous steering wheel holder. Or, maybe you can dump your bags if it's too low and just get the frame rails under the front of it, then inflate them to get the landing gear down a little lower. Yeah, you get grease on the frame rail tips, but it wipes off with a few paper towels from that stock in the cab.

I always leave the legs an inch or two up when I drop one.

Reason is I always hated one dropped too high and having to crank it down.

Also on one that's been sitting along time or a bad crank it's nice to use the bags lift it off the ground then start cranking.

And if you are running Low Profile 22.5's, the next guy with regular 22.5's or 24.5's will have a heck of time getting under it without slamming the pin. Set it on the ground, blow your bags and gently slide out from under it.

I know what @Electric Chicken goes through pulling the cans. I used to load seagoing tanks with fuel for the Islands. We had 3 trucks all with different sized tires on them. Then you had the island hoppers with, who know what on them. I'd rather have to lower a trailer/chassis than raise it.

Back at Dejnos I started out with an International Daycab but the Peterbilts left the trailers higher which often meant I hadda crank loaded ones down to me.

Even when I got assigned a Pete Model 386 later I remembered my 1st few months just Local in that Daycab and how much that sucked.

Dejnos has alot of old junky trailers too some that dated back all the way back to the 1980s and early 1990s

Try the chassis that sit on a boat getting covered with salt water. Everything is rusted. The slacks, landing gears, locking pins, etc... They are a nightmare sometimes.

Has anyone checked the title of the thread and topic lately?
Yes and you "deviated" off of that with your rant about Dry Van Wheel holders.

Besides does anything stay on topic around here more than a page or two anyways..

It's Independence Day so crack afew beers "lighten up" abit and enjoy the holiday weekend.

I quit drinking 5 years ago.

Try that.

And try staying on topic.

Anytime it's not already perfect is annoying but yeah I'll take cranking down over cranking up any day.

However, I am the low guy so I'm always cranking down. I'm sure I annoy just as many of the tall guys as they annoy me.

Paper towels. Forgot to restock, half a roll left.
That's dangerous territory. Take a lesson from @Uncle Birchy and pilfer 500 or 600 napkins from Wendy's when you use your coupon.

The napkins should be near the ketchup and salt and pepper. Which you should grab approximately 1000 of each.

It's all about basic survival when you're on the road.
