President Obama is scheduled to sign Congress’ two-year, $101 billion transportation bill into law during a White House ceremony on Friday, July 6.

The bill, HR4348, is also known as MAP-21 or Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century. It replaces the 2005 law known as SAFETEA-LU which expired in 2009. Since then, Congress has kept transportation programs afloat with a series of temporary extensions.

House and Senate lawmakers approved MAP-21 on June 29. The two chambers approved a temporary one-week extension to give the president time to sign MAP-21 into law while avoiding any chance of a possible shutdown of transportation programs.
