OOIDA Addresses The Shutdown

This happens and will continue to happen until someone addresses the problem. But we need someone to listen and then act

well then some of us are members of OOIDA, don't you think that somehow they can help by getting the government to enact some sort of "safe-guards" or Government licensing...???

until you o/o's push the right button's, yes, it will continue as you say....

i mean to say, even taxi cabs in NY (and many other states) are regulated for rates, permits, etc,etc......but, these might be on the state levels though...right....???

i hate like hell though to have the Fed's get back into our business, i can only see multiplied problems, not solutions.........

There are a lot of brokers doing this. I deal with brokers on a daily basis and some have good rates but alot are in the Brokerage business to make quick money.

They post $10,000 bond, establish good credit, build up customers, get about $100-$300,000 in revenue then forfeit bond and go out of business. Leaving the truckers who hauled the load holding the bag. Then get this start up again under a different name.

I wish i could make $100-$300,000 for a $10,000 investment off the hard work of others. My conscience just wouldn't let me do that. Everything i have had and will ever have will be through hard work and good work ethic. Internet Truckstop has a credit board that shows the brokers and others that have done this new ones added everyday.

i think they see "pigeons" each time a trucker calls..........do you agree....??

yeah, i wish i could screw a few people out of money, but like you, i wasn't brought up that way.........i too have a conscience..........

Apparently what OOIDA is doing is not enough. I give them credit but seems to be falling on deaf ears of law makers. As i see it we are not that important, but we will soon see how important we actually are.

and this is what i was trying to say all along, but "moose" or Bullwinkle, was kind of upset that i was (and still am) negative towards the strike.........

I was talking to you in a PM, but since you bring it out here.

I was irritated with you calling people morons and stupid for supporting the shutdown. I could care less who is against it, and encourage conversation on both sides of the issue.

But it is the issue that needs to be discussed, not the people doing the discussing.

Now, lets keep private conversations private.

My point on this is still the same. If we had 1 million members of OOIDA, the voice of OOIDA would be much stronger. They have to have the backing of the industry though, less than 10% support simply will not get much done.

We need support. Not Company Drivers who wrote the book on the whole damn Industry that don't support others trying to make a better deal for all involved. If you wrote the book on this you should have your own truck. It is easy to talk crap when your company is paying for everything and all you have to do is hold the steering wheel.

well first of all, company driver or not.....so what...??

and as a COMPANY driver, i DO BELONG to the OOIDA.....why...??

so that THEY CAN do what is neccessary for improvemnts through lobbying DC.............any of us actally have the time to go in person and talk with the bureaucrats...............??? i know i ain't got that time......do you....??

support comes in numbers of an organized body, not a ship-shod band of "dis-organized" groups............

Are you insinuating or referring to us as the ship - shod band of dis - organized group. I would really like to know what you are trying to say and who you are referring to. Because if you are referring to me and not including yourself, I don't appreciate this.

Can anyone convey a legitimate reason a company like Werner would keep 30 cents on average of the fuel surcharge from their owner operators, when their customers pay a fuel surcharge are they not assuming that fee is going to the truck hauling their freight 100%?
This is why I left werner 2 weeks ago, I am currently sitting. waiting to see what is gonna happen with the fuel as I investigate a new lease option, I have been on strike since March 26th........in 30 to 45 days I will run out of funds to make my truck & insurance payments.
Any suggestions on who to lease on with?
:blah: Trucker On Strike!!!!

I have never leased on with anyone, you might look into that option. To save the cost of plates and have someone do the fuel tax is not any savings to me. The best part is I can stop hauling anytime I want and for what ever reason.

in its "basic term", yes................(and NO, not me, as i will not participate in something that will either get me fired or DAC'd.........which is something NO ONE ELSE EVEN CONSIDERED)

and part of the reason is that there isn't any one "voice" leading this dis-organized ship-shod group. you need one particular person who will lead you, like for instance Jimmy Hoffa (the old man) who lead the factory workers in the union drives...........

you are all going in a direction of uncertainty, no leadership, no role model, no spokesperson.............when will you know "you accomplished" your goals...?? by the cb radio..?? by the news...?? how......??

how can you "bond" with no one particular leader....??? you need a "voice", one and only one............right now...........you ain't got it.........so, its dis-organized, and ship-shod.............

no exact end time, no exact demands (there's a problem), no politicians, no absolute knowledge this will take place as everyone thinks it will, and no thoughts to repercussions from being DAC'd for refusal to work..............

no one, is looking at the "BIG PICTURE"...............:beep:

Trucker On Strike!!!!

in all fairness, you "left werner"..........you did not get fired, you were not layed-off, you quit....so technically, you haven't been on strike as much as you have been unemployed.........

you claim to run out of money in a short period of time......

its going to take you longer to catch up to just breaking even, before you can pass that mark and make some profit. if the fuel surcharges are not what YOU WANT.....what will you do then....?? go out of business or just take whatever you can, so you can pay your bills.....

this might very well take you back to your problems with werner.........so then you don't gain anything, but you lost a lot........

Hello to all........

First I want to say, here we have shut down as a broker. I am a former company driver, owner operator, and third generation truck driver. I believe and praise this "shut down" as legally we cannot call it a "strike"

I do have to say this about the brokers and their bonds. OOIDA has a mission on-going for these "fly-by-night brokers" to get a $100,000 bond. Our brokerage company was one of the first who participated in this mission.

One post said to use the credit ratings that some freight posting web sites offer!! PLEASE and again I BEG you PLEASE use the credit ratings!! If you see a broker with an MC number in the 60000's..... be CAREFUL!!!!!!

Again, here at this office, we are shutting down in support of the truckers...... I can only pray someone listens!!

Here, we do pass on fuel surcharges!! That is YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!! And rightfully so!! I put in the rate conf sheets of what the FSC is, and you as an O/O leased to a company, you have the RIGHT to know what the FSC is and should have FULL pay of it!! It is not only the brokers who are taking advantage of the O/O... as I have several customers who pay VERY good of FSC, and I include that on the rate confermation sheets, but the company these O/O are leased too, they do not disclose that inforamation, and the O/O only get's his "leased" rate of 70% or less or how ever much a mile they are leased too........

Do not just look at the brokers, you need to look at the companies you are leased with.... do they show you the rate conf sheet of the load??? That should be included with your settlement!! Do not mis-understand me.... there ARE brokers who are theives, but there ARE still some honest brokers!! You just need to find them!!

Good luck to all, as my S/O is a driver and he is shutting down too!! I support him 110%........ I hope we can all make a difference!!! I am asking my customers to shut down also, but not sure how many will as they are still trying to keep their business going, but it is worth the effort!!

GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS!!!
