Officials approve container fee at port of L.A. to buy clean engines

The Port of Los Angeles has approved the second part of a three-phased plan for cutting truck emissions, and new container fees will pay part of the bill. The Harbor Commission approved a $35 fee on Thursday, Dec. 20, for every 20 feet of loaded equivalent cargo container leaving the port beginning on June 1, 2008.
