The default was set at 10 characters, reduced that to three. 10 was the default and that seemed a little too long when sometimes you just want to say "welcome" to a new member.
As long as we don't get overrun with a ton of posts that are just one short word, we will keep it at 3. I don't expect it to be a problem though.
