Illinois bills address truck speeds, fees and more

It is a significant week for trucking issues at the Illinois statehouse. Over the next three days, committees are slated to discuss issues that include truck speeds, truck weights, truck lengths and the commercial distribution fee.

Sen. John Sullivan, D-Rushville, is the sponsor of a bill that would expand the 65 mph speed limit for cars and trucks to include four-lane, divided highways outside of Chicago.

Sullivan was the sponsor of a bill signed into law in 2009 that authorized trucks to travel the same speed as smaller vehicles on rural, interstate highways. The new bill –SB1913– would include U.S. and state highways outside of Chicago and the five surrounding “collar” counties.
