A truck stop that’s been a fixture in the Joliet, IL, area for more than 30 years is about to close – taking with it about 180 truck parking spots.

An assistant manager at the I-55 Auto/Truck Plaza at Exit 257 told “Land Line Now” on XM Satellite Radio that the business will close Nov. 3, and that developers plan to tear down the truck stop and put in a shopping center.

Illinois ranked 42nd in commercial truck parking availability, according to a 2002 study conducted by the Federal Highway Administration.

If this is on rt 30, I stopped there back in January and they were limited on the pumps available for fuel. Their tire guy was a pickup and compressor that didn't work. Went inside and it was getting run down.

I had not been in this stop for over 8 years.

Do you happen to remember the name of the restaurant in this truck stop? If it is the one I'm thinking of, I will be sorry to see it go. We didn't get through there real often, but the waitresses were friendly and the food was good and inexpensive, especially the breakfasts. Dang.

Ok, I remember it now. That thing was a dump even back in the 90's

Isn't that the TS way off the road that is hard to find? IF so, no real loss. It was a pit when this old boy drove in 90. A good TS is hard to find. Keeping them that way is a constant problem. See the thread on TS problems. YAWN! Time to hit the bunk. Drive safe y'all. The Walrus

That place was a dump in the 80's also But it was a lot newer back then. I remember when the parking lot was decent but alot smaller

I almost stayed there in January. It was a disaster to look at past the pumps. I broke out in laughter when I noticed it was a pay to park lot. I thought, my (dirt)driveway is smoother and offers more room to boot! I would prefer to know a new truck stop would be built, but hey... Gotta have those strip malls to "decorate" the landscape.

That area really could use a large, quality TS.
