How much should someone pay for their class A CDL?

I know it's based on the state you live in, how good the school is, equipment they have, job placement services, etc... but ON AVERAGE what do y'all think is a fair price to pay for getting your license with some endorsements?

What is a sponsor and how did that work?

I live near philly... Where do y'all recommend getting it?

How do I find it for 2-3 grand?

For some reason I keep hearing 5-8 or more

A sponsor is someone who pays for your education (usually in an applied technical field). Could be a family member, or an agency, or a church, or a school. I don't give away the name of my sponsor out of respect for them, but I strongly suspect they have a presence in Philly.

If you're short on money, I'd suggest going to any career development training or resource centers near you. You might find someone there to sponsor you. I did.

If not, you may have no choice but to go to a carrier-owned driver school such as Swift Academy, or C.R. England. (Note: Do not go to C.R. England!)

Avoid any and all megas. Prime, Swift, Warner Brothers, CRST, Western Express, CR England etc

Have you looked at TMC or Maverick? Nothing wrong with open deck, gotta be around the best to be the best

the CDL permit...you pay

the endorsements...you pay

the learning/work book (or books) you pay... the State CDL manual will be free however

the DOT physical sometimes the school pays (out of your tuition) or you pay out of pocket

the first DMV road test, you might have to pay, but you surely WILL PAY for any subsequent road tests if you fail.

schools can be across the board, from as low as $2,500 to $12,000......

length of time a course can be is across the board from 80 hours (not recommended) up to 460 hours

in terms of months.>??

80 hours, that's about 2 weeks..

460 hours, that can be as much as 8 to 7 months???

look for a nationally accredited training school.

technically speaking, if a school loses it's accreditation, they can no longer advertise that they are accredited.

any school that IS NOT accredited, stay away from.

you can also sign on with a trucking company, where after you "graduate", they will hire you on as an employee, and THEY WILL make weekly deductions for your schooling with them, usually you must also work for them for at least 1 full year, if you leave before you pay off that loan, they can damage your credit report, if you fail to continue to meet your financial responsibility, that YOU SIGNED FOR....

good luck, this should have given you some basic information.

One of my old buddies from the states just started pulling flats for Western Express. Of course he has felonies and is retarded by the legal definition. Gets a cheque and everything. I've gotten gems like these.......

My "trainer" has been gone almost 5 hours getting laid somewhere and there are on 2 left on his 14.

Oh never mind it's cool he was at the casino.

I tarped this all by myself because my trainer didn't have the steel toe shoes they require to be in the facility.

Yeah we're waiting on a mechanic to pull this trailer bumper out straight. I hit a light pole......but it was in a bush so.....yeah.

And that was just in the first 2 weeks.

Speak of the devil a Western Express driver wandered over to ask how I was securing my Bobcats. I showed him my way, then once I was ready to leave I wandered over to give his load a once over. He had one chain pulling the wrong way, other than that it looked good. Told him to throw a strap on the boom, on a mini-ex, also

He said he’s been there for four hours, he had to go get more binders. :coocoo:

While I don’t exactly like the name on the door, at least he was smart enough to ask questions. That’s how I learned, and still how I learn.

The worst was the guy that didn’t understand how to hook a chain hook back onto the chain :stare2:

$1200

Plus roller dogs for the teacher
You must be joking! I paid 3 grand back in '95. I hear it is around 6 grand now at an accredited school.
Here is the thing, you can pay $1200 but you will most likely fail on your first attempt and then you get to pay again and again until they get their money that an accredited school gets or you can pay up front and take your test once and pass. That way you don't have to say I passed the test on my 6th try.

That’s about what I paid. And I passed first time. 6 or 7 hours seat time, memorize a pre-trip, go take the test, bam I’m a trucker

(But I was mostly joking)

Bonus points if the golfer is mid-swing and you make him miss

You forgot no pantie wearing and taking front door from door swingers

Also, if kids do the arm pump, honk the damn air horn

Otherwise, looks accurate
Those first two fall under "talk shit on the radio" and "hit triple digits on flat ground".
I thought the arm pump went without saying but here we are.
