Ok, slow down motivator. Lay off the caps, it does make things hard to read. Try looking over your post, and if its hard for you to read its hard for the rest of us to read and probably leads to a lack of replies.

From what I gather, correct me if I am wrong you had an accident in 2002. And now you are looking for a new company. Now JB Hunt is not the most honest company in the world and probably didn't want you due to resisting OTR work. Now I look at people who refuse OTR work as whiny people who aren't willing to do what needs to be done. It looks like you really need to start working to get the bills paid. My advice to you is to find an OTR job and fast. It has the best pay and you can make contacts to find a good regional job.

I'm sorry, but most likely places will tell you, you are hired and then try to press you to go OTR or they cannot use you. They know it traps you.

BUT you may just have to go OTR

MY QUESTION WASN'T ABOUT GOING OTR OR REGIONAL THE QUESTION IS HOW DO I AVOID THE PROBLEM AGAIN, WHEN I HAVE TO GO OUT OF STATE FOR ORIENTATION. (2) I HAVE BEEN OTR AND THE MONEY ISN'T AS FABULOUS AS YOU THINK.

Get a copy of you DAC find out what's on it or was that a copy of your DAC.
Your DAC is said to hold 10 times more weight than your MVR. It tells the new companies what the older companies have thought of you and your work performance.

If you want a job in trucking you need a clean DAC or a place that's willing to work with some blemishes. If you have a preventable accident that's a big blemish on a DAC and will follow you around for your whole career. It could also cause problems in hiring.

When switching new jobs. I have made sure that I was pre-hired before attending orientation. Get the pre-hire date in writing via electronic submission. I had a fax sent to me and scanned via computer stating that I had been hired so I wouldn't go to orientation for nothing. I also had my benefits package included in my hire package & my orientation pay. I have done the same while making sure my husband got hired on at a good company.

Also have the trucking company HR person state what position you will be doing upon hire. OTR, Local, Regional, or dedicated, dry, flat, tanker, or refer division. If it's in writing that can cut down on some of the hassle.

Know that trucking companies will tell you anything to get you in the door. Once they have you on their property they figure your not going to cut and run back home after spending money to get to them.

This can be a bit of a hassle but I have never had to return back home with a job I didn't want or apply for. I also got the pay I negotiated with in the pre-hire package which was higher than some of the drivers in my orientation class.

when you speak to a recruiter ask them if they do 100% verification before sending you to orientation..if they say no then dont go.Some companies wont send you unless you are cleared by all the departments first so that exact thing doesnt happen.

the only way to stay away from the jb crap is stay away from companies like that. they have a bad record for doing that. i know, i worked for jb for a year and a half. they suck, bottom line. florida is full of companies that run really well and make some change. you just gotta know where to look and who to talk too. there are companies that run only florida and don't leave state.

on the other hand maybe the big rig is not for you. look into dump trucks or cement hauling trucks. or even beer delivery trucks.

what reason did the HR dept. give you about you not being hirable? Cause you didn't care for OTR??? Dude, get your foot in the door before being picky is what I'd advise right. Get a bit of senority then put in for what you want.

I see it differently than some on the OTR vs Regional thing. I don't think anyone should simply take an OTR job to get in the door or whatever. Seems to me, the happy driver is the better driver on average. Sometimes "settling" for what someone else wants just doesn't cut it.

Now to the actual issue. As Cerberus said, to avoid the JB type problem, avoid those companies. Werner will promise you everything you want... They won't give it to you though, if you live in FL. Speaking from experience and the 1st hand knowledge of others, they will openly lie to you. They're a JB type company.

CCC isn't like them from what I know(not that it's much). You may make the trip over to see what they need. They pay okay and have 'regional only' in at least one division. They also have a tanker division if you wanna stay in that arena. They also have daycabs in FL so you should be able to do that at some point. Just don't expect any openings currently.

There are also countless dirt and rock haulers looking for help. All those that come to mind are local.

Anywho, find another small company and you may find it far easier to get what you want as far as area. Pay... That's another story.

I refuse to go O.O.S. for orientation anymore as I've done the bus and train things as I refuse to fly and the O.O.S. is more hassle than it's worth especially if one has no place at home to park either a Truck or Combo.
Unless You SIGN A CONTRACT stating specific terms, etc., there is NO COMPANY in any state that has to uphold anything they claim regarding hiring you. (OOS= Out Of State for this post)
Every Company I've been to are AT WILL places meaning you're hired AT WILL with NO promise of continued work and this is generally stated on applications. The Company or You can cancel your employment at ANYTIME for ANY reason or NO reason, and THIS INCLUDES orientation.
The BEST advice is just don't go O.O.S.
Florida isn't that small as one can toss some Jeffersons just getting around to the Companies there.
There's a Company called Indian Trails near Tampa(?). I've red both good and bad of them and they're Tanker, yet they're BASED in FL.
