Driver's Retirement Thread

One thing to remember, any body of fresh water in Florida has the potential to have gators living in it. Just keep your wits about you when wandering around. At night, if you see red eyes, it's sure to be a gator. Frogs will have bright green eyes. Bright LED lights light up eyes the best.
Don't go to Florida. Got it. Thanks for the travel tip.

We have been watching a 4-5 footer in the evening about 50 yards away along the bank on the the other side.

I like that place. The view especially.

I had a conversation about this with my dad a little bit back. Despite the cons, we agreed we'd never leave PA because it's home. And much of it is beautiful regardless of the politics.

I live in a small town but none of us are city folk minded. It's only a town because that's how the houses were arranged a century ago. The only apartment building is a subdivided house.

Thanks,It sits on 58 acres with free gas, a good spring, in ground septic system and excellent hunting right out the back door.My wife and I enjoy traveling but when we reach the point where we can’t or don’t want to anymore theirs no doubt this is where we will be permanently.

Can you like pretend I'm your long lost son and put me in your will? I'd like to be part of that dynasty. 🤔👑

What's the angle with the free gas?

@Electric Chicken Their are 3 old wells on the property and in the deed it reads that I get free gas and a 1/8th of the royalties. That’s one of the reasons I bought it 33 years ago.The royalties don’t amount to much of anything anymore but they should always produce enough for the free gas.👍

I don't think I'll ever understand why people choose to live in a place where there are giant lizards that eat people. 😳
I took a nap on a lounge chair behind the motorhome while the dog chased lizards. My wife gave me hell for falling asleep and not keeping an eye on the dog to keep her from getting ate by the gator. When I asked her why she wasn’t worried about me. Well you had your feet up.lol

I never really understood those people that refuse to retire saying they would be bored. I can think of a million things to do and a half million things not to do and put off for another day or years.
Sure I like my job but they want you there at a specific time and five days a week. Crazy, I know right?
If I retired or won the lottery, I think I would just sleep for a few days knowing I had nowhere in particular to be.

Rarely do they eat people. Dogs, cats, deer and anything else that happens into their path is fair game. Your best defense from them if you are in proximity is a good hard punch in the nose. They turn around and back off when that happens to them. I've lived here 66 years and never had a problem with them. Most of my younger life was right on the edge of The Everglades. Then people moved in. People suck.

You can get bored if you want too. You can stay busy if you want too. I can understand if you live in an apartment. There is only so much you are allowed to do, even if you could.

I said it here many times. I liked my job, it's the other 'drivers?' surrounding me that forced me to retire while I was still alive. Work hours always suck, but you have to have some sort of schedule. To this day, I still set my alarm for 03:30. I get up, have coffee, read all the forums, walk the dog, then make breakfast for both me and the dog. Yep! He gets his eggs every morning too.

I don't think I could ever sleep for days unless I was in a coma. I have too much energy and am too restless. If I won a lottery in any substantial amount, I'd get a medium sized motor coach, hook up my car hauler to it and travel to all of the big car shows around the country. I'd do the motor coach thing so I wouldn't have to eat in restaurants and sleep in hotels. I don't care about RV parks. There are just more people there to disturb my peace.

@Shreck I'd love a place like that. No neighbors to listen to or even see for that matter. Plus you have the acreage to pretty much build any sized shop that you want,

@389 Hood This was the horse barn that I converted to a garage after the horses left and I tore down all the fences.

I've never been a super energetic type of person 24/7. I can hustle at work but when I get home I'm like a light switch. I've also been a homebody all my life, even as a teenager.

I suspect after a short time resting after this career ends, I'd then catch up on everything I've neglected, maybe get in the car and hit some of those things I've starred on Google Maps, but otherwise I wouldn't make a lifestyle of traveling.

It's kind of ironic. One of the ideas behind the Honda was to be able to run around to those things but the desire still isn't there. Errands are less of a big deal though so there's that.

For you, a few years on the road doing non-scheduled deliveries may be great. You can see each one of those places at your leisure, then choose the next lane that will take you to where you want to go. We were fortunate enough to be able to do that back then.

The barn isn't visible in the first pic. Yep! I could go with that program. You may want to delete the picture of the Wing and CanAm. @Duck will track you down and claim both of them for his own. 😂
Too late. I've already hacked into a government server to access the background scenery recognition app they used to try to find Bin Laden.

According to the results, the photos were taken on: "Earth".

That really narrows it down. Earth is one of the smaller planets.
