Authorities initially suspect a medical issue may be the reason an Oklahoma truck driver crashed through a house on Jan. 28, killing one of its occupants. However, the investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.
Alva Fire Chief Kirk Trekell speculates that 51-year-old Steven Buxton of Woodward, OK, “had some kind of medical issue” that led to the crash. The chief says the emergency call was about a car inside a house, but when firefighters arrived at the scene, “the back half of a rock trailer is all you can see.”
Trekell reports there wasn’t any indication Buxton, a driver for Westoak Production Services, tried to stop before hitting the house.
Before hitting the house, the tractor-trailer hit a pickup truck, two light poles, a telephone pole and a passenger car before crashing through a home on East Oklahoma Boulevard around 10 a.m., according to the accident report.
FMCSA’s compliance measure program, CSA, shows that Westoak Production Services is in alert status in only one of the measurement groups – Vehicle Maintenance BASIC. The company has a total of 75 vehicle violations recorded, with 20 of the violations being brake related.
An 83-year-old man was in the home at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Buxton was remained in the hospital as of press time, according to Alva police.
