Google is your friend. And it shouldn't be a surprise that the weather media took an informal term used among meteorologists since the 40's, and turned it into hysteria. It actually has a precisely defined meaning in meteorology.

Yeh, a couple of years ago, everybody was misusing the term "Arctic vortex." That was just as annoying. No reason to over-dramatize the weather report. Just tell us what the best guess is for what we should expect and leave the sensationalism to the political commentators.

Last night around 10 we were at the Love's in Kankakee.

The TV news in there said there was snow and ice all over Illinois but I had just driven diagonally across the whole state and didn't encounter a single snowflake.

But they were showing old stock footage of cars and trucks in ditches and stuff.

Fake news even lies about current weather conditions now.

They've always lied about the forecast. They say it's going to rain tomorrow and it doesn't, but that was the first time I've seen them straight up lie and say 2/3rds of the state is covered with snow and ice RIGHT NOW and there are cars in ditches everywhere when there isn't.

I gave up on the local news stations for weather reports. CP24 known AKA City Panic 24 Has "weather specialists" Wait, Yesterday that girl was the "money specialist"

I use the Weather Network APP on my phone. It is not perfect but it is more accurate than any local news station.

This is one of our local weather ladies, I have no clue how accurate her forecast are!
