ARLINGTON, Va., May 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- During National Transportation Week 2010 (May 16-22), the American Trucking Associations is reminding people that trucks deliver the essentials that they need everyday.

With the help of ATA's outreach programs America's Road Team and Share the Road, the industry is being represented at schools, community events, state trucking association safety award banquets, truck driving championships, teen safety events, and even at the National Zoo. State trucking associations are also holding events across the nation to remind the public that trucks bring life's essentials.

"During National Transportation Week, trucking can convey the important role we play in moving the American economy," said ATA President and CEO Bill Graves. "Trucks are the sole supplier to 80 percent of U.S. communities. We deliver food, clothing and medical supplies – and we do it safely."

During National Transportation Week, America's Road Team will speak at the Maine, South Dakota, North Dakota and Nevada Truck Driving Championships and visit an elementary class with the Trucker Buddy program. A Captain will also speak at the National Judicial College to address the judges on what it is like to be a professional truck driver and guide them through a truck cab to see the impact of legislation first-hand. Share the Road will be at the National Zoo and an Ohio high school performing safety demonstrations. Both trucks will also be in Greensboro, N.C. on Monday and Tuesday at Volvo Trucks North America and Mack Trucks, Inc. headquarters to reach out to the Greensboro community, media and even the Mack and Volvo employees.

Drivers are reminding the public all week that the trucking industry includes 3.4 million professional truck drivers with one out of every 19 Americans employed in the industry. Trucking is a $660 billion industry, representing 83.1 percent of the nation's freight bill.

The America's Road Team, sponsored by Volvo Trucks North America, is a national public outreach program led by a small group of professional truck drivers who share superior driving skills, remarkable safety records and a strong desire to spread the word about safety on the highway. ART Home

The ATA,,, driver appreciation is while all the company drivers are out busting their humps for less then minimum wage and the owner-ops are pulling out our hair from stress, the ATA and their staff have a barbecue in our honor, take a few pics, tell a couple jokes while patting each other on the bum, then spend the evening counting their money and laughing at what fools we are.
